Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative for homeless and at-risk vets since 2008

Who we are

Founded and run by veterans, MHVI's mission is to help homeless and at-risk veterans reach and maintain their highest levels of independence. We offer unique programs to fill the gaps and don't duplicate what others do, and cooperate with the Veterans Administration, Wis. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, County Veterans Service Officers, and other non-profit agencies.

Since 2008 we have helped more than 1,500 veterans and their famililes in southeastern Wisconsin to obtain benefits, housing, health care, furniture, household goods, food, clothing, transporation, toiletries and other necessities.

There are more ways for veterans to connect. Checkout our Facebook page!

A surprise!

With less than a month until the first day of fall classes starts, our office has a few announcements for you.

Fall Certification

It’s that time of year again! If you are planning on using your VA benefits for the fall term, please email myself at or Steve at to let us know when your academic schedule is finalized. Similarly, if you do not plan on using your VA benefits for the fall term (or the year, etc.), please let us know so we do not certify you in error. Once you email us with a notification, we will try and certify you as soon as possible. If you do not confirm that your schedule is set, we will certify you on or after the second week of classes.

Military & Veteran Hub Group

Did you know that there are many different online resources for you all out on MSOE’s new website, the Hub? If you haven’t gotten a chance to join the group, you can find it here: The main uses of the group are to pass on exciting opportunities, resources, and conversations with all of you. We also hope that it will spark communication between all of you, as you can act as a support for one another. Don’t see something you want on the group? Let us know!

MSOE Resources Available To You

MSOE has a few key resources available for you to use throughout the year.

Learning Resource Center

Counseling Services

Disability Services

Alternate Email Addresses

Do you check your Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, or Yahoo email more frequently than your MSOE email? If this is the case, you may want us to include your personal email in our contacts for when we send out notifications such as this one. Keep in mind that your email address and other contact information will remain hidden and confidential- it will only be used for certification requests and other announcements related to our military and veteran student population.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
