The tutors in RCAS know how very important studying is at MSOE and have picked up some good ideas of how to be more effective with their studying. They would like to share some of their strategies with other students, so here’s a brief listing:
Set goals for yourself. For example, study for 30 minutes without looking at Facebook and then reward yourself for accomplishing each goal.
Create a plan for yourself just as you would for an essay: choose the main topics from each chapter, then approach studying ahead of time. Also get help from friends, classmates, and tutors.
Schedule a block of time for yourself that you only use for studying. Block it off in your calendar and don’t schedule anything else during that time.
Don’t worry about making your notes neat and organized when you’re trying to write them down in class. Rewrite them in an outline form a day or two after learning the material.
Chew a distinct flavor of gum only while studying. Chew that same flavor during the test to help with your memory.
Use those extra holiday candy canes during your test. The peppermint candy helps increase alertness while maintaining a sense of calm. The peppermint helps more oxygen travel to the brain which increases concentration and focus.
These are just a few ideas that you could try. As you think of your own study tips, write them down and share them with RCAS.
